It was largely the work of St. Jerome, who was commissionedby Pope Damasus I in 382 to make a revision of the Vetus Latina(old Latin translations). In English, the interlineartranslation of the Lindisfarne Gospels as well as other Old EnglishBible translations, the translation of John Wycliffe, theDouay-Rheims Bible, the Confraternity Bible, and Ronald Knox'stranslation were all made from the Vulgate.The Vulgate has a compound text that is not entirely the work ofJerome.[2] Its components include:- Jerome's independent translation from the Hebrew: the books ofthe Hebrew Bible, usually not including his translation of thePsalms. This was completed in 405.- Translation from the Greek of Theodotion by Jerome: The threeadditions to the Book of Daniel; Song of the Three Children, Storyof Susanna, and The Idol Bel and the Dragon. The Song of the ThreeChildren was retained within the narrative of Daniel, the other twoadditions Jerome moved to the end of the book.- Translation from the Septuagint by Jerome: the Rest of Esther.Jerome gathered all these additions together at the end of the bookof Esther.- Translation from the Hexaplar Septuagint by Jerome: his Gallicanversion of the Book of Psalms. Apósconverter-se ao protestantismo aos 14 anos, Almeida partiu para aBatávia. Aos 16 anos traduziu um resumo dos evangelhos do espanholpara o português, que nunca chegou a ser publicado.
